Should any student be shunned by college recruiters or employers if their clothing is out of style?

March 4th, 2010
Barb asked:

It has been mentioned in another question that home-schoolers might be ridiculed and shunned by potential employers and college recruiters because they might be wearing a denim jumper or frumpy mom-clothes. (Poor boys….. I hope they are NOT wearing the jumpers!!! ;-) Well, maybe the girls do and maybe they don’t.
My home school students don’t seem to have a problem with style. And SO WHAT if others dress in other than the preppy, cool, brand-name, media promoted garb?
It is supposed that others might be mean to them…. Is this true? Will you yourself be mean to someone that you meet if they are dressed differently than you?
Will a boss deny the job to a qualified applicant because he isn’t wearing the status-quo Nikes or whatever brand is in vogue at the moment?
Should a college recruiter tell a young person that they can’t attend the University because they are in frumpy clothing even though they aced the SAT?

Good students get into college!
Good workers get the job!
So… what I think that I am reading is that potential bosses and college professors would rather work with someone based on assumption vs reality.

Scenario: You are the boss in charge of hiring. The owner of the company relies on you to make the best choice.
What criteria will you use to make your decision?

Will a highly skilled chemistry major not be offered a full-ride scholarship to Nuclear Engineering Graduate School because he or she is wearing home-made clothing? I think not. My good friends are already there.

Stereo-typical assumptions about one’s mental state or emotional understanding of life….. yikes….. how can this be based on clothing style? Wow, the clothing manufacturers will be knocking on someone’s door to offer them a job soon! A new marketing technique — “Wear our clothes to prove you are emotionally stable!!!”
This cannot be based on any proven psychological study.

Think about it.

Flirting Tips For Shy Girls – How to Flirt No Matter How Shy You Are

March 3rd, 2010

In this article, you’ll discover some great flirting tips for shy girls. But first, imagine this scenario.

A cute guy is drinking all by himself at the bar. You’re alone and spot him giving you a little smile. A moment later, he turns his head to look at you again with inviting eyes. He’s obviously flirting with you. Will you:

a. Smile back at him and raise your drink in a private toast

b. Cross your legs and tuck a few strands of hair behind your ear

c. Look away and keep your eyes on your drink the whole time

If you answered a or b, I assume you’ve done this whole routine before. If you’re among the lot who answered c, either there’s a dancing man in your glass or you’re one shy girl. If it’s the latter, then you are in desperate need of help.

“Flirting tips for shy girls? Is there such a thing?” you might ask. “Is that even an option?”

Yes, there is such a thing as flirting tips for shy girls. You won’t find them easily in the library though.

First of all, you have to erase the idea that shy girls can’t flirt. They say flirting is an art. And like art, flirting cannot be boxed into a single style. Be yourself. You don’t have to wear a plunging neckline to be ****. Remember the quote: “Different strokes for different folks.”

Besides, do you really want to be like all the other girls?

Don’t be too tense. Calm yourself down before making any move; or else, you risk making awkward smiles and stiff hand movements. Relax for a minute and enjoy your drink. Guys are always on the lookout for girls who are comfortable with themselves.

Practice smiling in front of the mirror. Shy girls tend to make small smiles, which go almost unnoticed. This flirting tip for shy girls works wonders. Once a guy spots you with a great smile, he will automatically feel more confident to approach you.

Don’t be afraid to start a conversation. When he finally approaches you, talk as if you’re with a friend. Once you’re in the zone, sliding into flirting territory will feel more natural.

You may find it hard to believe, but these flirting tips for shy girls are easy and simple to apply. You should be able to enjoy the moment and the teasing conversation. Believe that you’re a great woman inside out.

Honestly, these flirting tips for shy girls aren’t that much different from other seduction methods. Whether you’re an introvert or extrovert, you can apply these seduction techniques so other people will see how fabulous you are!

Boys Strut Their Stuff Thanks to Designer Baby Clothing Stores

March 2nd, 2010

Where did you find your favorite baby clothing stores? On 5th and Main, just downtown? Do you live on Rodeo Drive? If you don’t live anywhere near a fashion nexus, it can be downright painful looking through the paltry selection at a local department store, or even shopping the local mall. What you want are exotic baby clothes, designer baby boy hats and other baby boy clothes that nobody else seems to have. Your children are, after all, unique–why shouldn’t they be dressed in style?

It doesn’t have to be run-of-the-mill for your family, not by a long shot. There are plenty of high fashion stores you can reach with only a few Google searches and mouse clicks, but do you know where to look?

For one thing, you’ll want to be sure that the high-sticker of your fashion taste doesn’t cost you needlessly. Once you buy angora or cashmere wear for your little prince, you’ll want to be sure that the clothes don’t have to be dry-cleaned on top of that. This is really important because a baby’s skin is very sensitive, even to the “green” chemicals in modern dry cleaners. Be sure it’s all wash and wear.

Another issue you’ll want to address is: you want the genuine article. You don’t want a knock-off, you’ll want a designer and distributor that has a history of providing quality clothes. Why spend $45 on an article of clothing, all to watch the seams split after the first couple of washings?

Finally, make sure that the fabric is all-natural. Angora, cashmere, cottons…these are safe against your prince’s skin. You don’t want to chance it with some cheaper, mass-produced, man-made fabric that will only irritate your son’s skin.

IS there such a store? There certainly is. You can buy designer baby boy clothes of all sorts. You don’t have to worry about not wearing trendy baby clothes on your son anymore simply because you can’t find what you’re looking for locally. Baby boy hats, hand-knit, designed by European designers can crown your prince in no time, with just a thoughtful search or two online.

Finding Affordable Quality Infant Girl Clothes

February 28th, 2010

There is nothing more enjoyable than going shopping for infant girl clothes. All of those cute little dresses and sweaters, the pajamas and shoes and socks – everyone loves shopping for them. But, if you pay full price in a department store for them, you are making a big mistake. There are now plenty of places to buy clothes for babies and toddlers at affordable prices, and you can still get the same quality and brands that you expect for your child.

One of the keys to buying infant girl clothes is that they should be easy to put on and take off. After all, your baby will be changed many, many times every day and if you are fiddling with buttons or zippers, you will be in a lot of trouble. So, before you even decide on a brand of clothing to buy, make sure that whatever clothes you do buy for her are truly functional.

In addition, washability is essential in infant girls clothes. If the clothes require washing in a particular temperature so that they maintain their size or fabric quality, then they just won’t do. You need products that are made from fabric that can stand up to wash after wash, in high temperatures, or they just won’t last that long.

Another thing to remember is that it is certainly no crime to dress your little girl in “boy’s clothes”. If you see a good buy in a store, get it! It doesn’t matter whether it is light pink or light blue – your kid doesn’t know the difference and if it means saving a few bucks, then it is worth the price. Often times, little boy’s clothes are cheaper than girl’s, so go ahead and look into the boy’s department when you are looking for clothes for your girls – you might save a little money.
